Minnewaska from the top

Minnewaska from the top

Met up with Steve and Samantha (and Stella, their dog) for a ride around Minnewaska State Park. This park offers some dramatic views from some very steep cliffs. The trails are wide open carriage trails and no single track for bicyles to ride on (at least for now). What it misses in technical it makes up with some great views on just about every turn, climb or decent… Its not a challenging park to ride, but its one of those places you just need to see and do every once in awhile to mix things up and keep it interesting. We did roughly a 11 mile loop in about 1 hour. No granny gear, and probably could push the big ring for most of it.

I made this little video of my recent 3 day backpack trip. I used a Lumix point and shoot to take the video so the quality might be a bit crazy. Enjoy. Song: Blitzen Trapper/Black River Killer

I had feeling these devices would cause some issues. Instead of relying on technology just cover the basics: 1) Let some one know your route and when you plan to return 2) Research the area you are visiting by talking with rangers and visiting websites related to the area (cross reference) before your trip 3) Carry the 10 essentials to wilderness survival 4) Don’t go alone if you can help it 5) Use maps and learn to use a compass and stick to the trails 6) Know your limits and your groups limits (you are as strong as your weakest buddy). Stay safe and travel smart.
