One Legged Biker

There was a bike shop called Village Wheels on 8th street in NYC many years ago which I would visit often because it was near my school. The sales guys and mechanics in this shop loved to ride and talk bikes, but they were all about making deals as well. Its where I got my first pair of XTR wheels by trading my baseball card collection. Its also where I purchased one of my very first mountain bikes with my own money, a green Ironhorse mt600… Often we would all meet up in front of the shop to go for these large group rides to either Staten Island Greenbelt, Forest Park or just tool around Manhatten and head up-town to Central Park…

Anyway, this was where I was introduced to the one-legged messenger. I told a friend about this guy and he didn’t believe me a guy could succeed as a bike messenger with one leg, but here is a video… here is the proof…

Before we had cars we used to ride to the trails. Riding through NYC streets was the norm. My brother and I would start in Queens NY and ride all the way to the Staten Island Ferry to go to the Staten Island GreenBelt… Along the way we would pick up friends and we would eventually have an entire mob of mountain bikers heading towards the ferry terminal, riding the NYC streets… This video reminded me of those days…
