Super fun event on one of the best single track race courses… The race was hosted by DarkHorseCycles in Stewart State Forest, NY. The event was all about having fun. Those that crave 1 gear were beckoned here for 2 reasons… ride stupid fast on a tight twisty single track course, and the other was to finish it off with a pint glass of beer…

Helping a racer out with a Stans NoTubes tire and no Co2. This required a technique by someone that was fast with the wrists.. Luckily, a Dark Horse team member had the fast wrist action experience to pump a NoTubes in seconds…saving the racer from a DNF at that moment.. cool deal!

There are 8 tentative races scheduled for the H2H for 2009 starting in May. If you haven’t started training, now would be a good time to start catching up. More info can be found at the H2H official website.

DH40 is more than just a endurance mountain bike race.. Its an elaborate event put together by the guys and gals of DarkHorseCycles… who put in over 300 - 400+ hours setting up this event just so our bike lovin’ culture can have one day a year doing what we all love to do… eating and drinking beer… I mean, riding, yeah that’s it… riding our mountain bikes! Riding a 40 mile wonderland at a race pace that is fun, fast and challenging. The trails are just so awesome. They are fast and technical at points and if your not careful, you could end up beating the crap out of you and your bike… Case in point; shattered the crown on my fork!… Yeah, I DNF’d again this year due to yet another mechanical… but that didn’t matter because like I said, the DH40 is more than a race… the race is only half the fun… the other fun part is in the people, good stories, food, and, yeah, lots of beer!!!

Spsst…spssssst… If you build it, they will come…

But when you see guys like this in the woods… run Forest…. RUN!!!! Luckily we know them and, hell, we at a civilized event called the DH40…

It was a day to remember our father(s), a day we realized fudge bars and Chuckie Cheese pizza might be the key to riding faster, a day to remember to add four, five, six scoops of Heed rather than three, a day I was renamed Colenn, a day I realized I’m taking pictures of guys in tights, as well as a day I was happy to be reassured I take pictures of women too, a day I realized Porsche makes a bike rack that people actually use, a day I cracked up so hard when I saw a MTBNJ blow up doll on the course, and finally a day I will live and hear over and over as the day Tony was faster than me… and, last but not least, a day I had a great time at a race that was fast and challenging, even though I sucked wind like I was a Dyson vacuum…
