Embudo Park, New Mexico

Embudo Park

You ever go to a place and kick yourself for not bringing your bike? Well, I had one of those moments when I stumbled upon Embudo Park on my trip through New Mexico. I did one of those things where I saw the mountains ahead of me while I was driving and made the decision to keep going until I hit a trail head. That’s how I found Embudo. Embudo had fast flowing single track that just screamed to pushed in the big ring. I noticed some of the trail wrapped around a mountain side which I envisioned was some super awesome whoopty-do single-track-berm-fest (who’s to say it wasn’t?). I ended up hiking and climbing to the top which allowed for some awesome views of Albuquerque. Of course I didn’t take pics of that view cause I was beat from hiking up that “little hill” (I say “little” when in fact I mean leg busting). Embudo Park is in Albuquerque and the trail head can be hit by just driving east down Menaul Blvd. I saw 2 bike shops on the way and a fishing/hunting store called Charlies (super friendly staff in there).

Rio Grande Nature Center

Another place I visited on my trip to New Mexico was the Rio Grande Nature Center. This place is an awesome destination for kids or if you are an avid bird watcher. The Center also has a small trail system that leads to the Rio Grande. The trail system is only open for hikers and is real easy. There is also a viewing wall where you can watch various bird species dart around the protected pond. Fall and winter are said to be the best times to come by and watch migrating birds from the North stop by. For more info pay the New Mexico Parks Dept website a visit.

Fenton Lake

Fenton Rock

Just got back from 5 days in New Mexico. New Mexico is an outdoor enthusiasts dream. Whether you hike, climb, fish, bike or paddle, New Mexico has some thing for you. I ended up visiting a few places and this is the first one I wanted to tell you about. The place is Fenton Lake and it’s a small lake nestled near the Jemez Mountains. To get their you take NM 4 which is a real pretty drive with many points of interest. The lake is really small but has some leisure fishing and while hiking I found this boulder that was just screaming to be climbed (so much fun). I found all my maps and info for my trip on the New Mexico Parks Dept website. This week I’ll post some pics from the places I visited.
